Columbia, Mo

I'm moving to Columbia late this year. Was wondering if anyone had any room for a couple of horses at their place? They're used to being outside, a lot is fine for them. I'm trying to avoid the boarding stables if possible. It would be really great if I could get in with a trainer or someone who needs help getting some colts rode. Any information you could offer me would be greatly appreciated.

out of control horse

I am new to the website so I am sure many of you have seen this question before -

I have a 10 yo gelding we bought about 4 years ago who was started on barrels - he has some pretty good times on him and a great natural head set -

He gets really out of control when it comes time to go into the arena - I have tried to use the method of turning him into several cirlces until he decides he'd rather go forward then turn tight circles, that worked for a little bit - i walk him in and out of the area without working the barrel pattern, we go on trail rides, haul him different places besides barrel events, but once he figures out he is going run them he is a spaz. we usually end up having to back him in and then after we are done with the ride he wants to go back to the trailer. I've walked him the opposite direction of the trailer several times but once he gets somewhat close he finds away to get over there -

even turning the small circles he will still find a way to move the direction he wants to go - even if it involves running into a trailer, truck or another horse - so its getting to the point where it is unsafe at events for others and us - i'm willing to take the time to win this battle but again when it comes to the safety of others and their property i do not wish to subject them to that

we've even given him a two year break off of barrels

thank you for any input you may have

Need Help!

Okay, I'll start by explain my first problem....the dreaded first barrel. =p My mare has REALLY improved over the past 3 years (she had a foal in this time and was off for a while) on her 2nd and 3rd barrels. I am sure this is partly because I have also improved through lots and lots of hard work. But my first barrel is still bugging me to death!! Coming in the gate if I let her go, she wants to run straight at the barrel, with absolutely no pocket. I have to fight her to make her arch around it like she should. Well my fighting with her throws her off on her turn and makes her have to turn waaaaay wider going into the second. I can barely get her lined up and ready to turn for the second in time. I'm not sure what I can do to correct this. I've practiced the pattern backwards, made her turn the opposite direction at every barrel, turned every barrel twice.... it seems like I'm missing something though. So any advice on that would be GREATLY appreciated!!! =]

Okay, second problem. I am sure EVERYONE is having this problem right now. Money..... need I say more? I am currently attending 2 separate colleges. One is online and one I commute to daily. It is 45 minutes away. So my entire paycheck (little as it is) goes almost completely towards putting gas in my car. Luckily my parents help me out when I need it, but I owe them at this point. Especially since my car broke down and is going to be at LEAST $500 to fix. I'm just wondering what everyone does for extra money??? I have ways of getting extra money through my litters of puppies, but none of my dogs have been bred in the past year or so, so they're not helping me much at this point. Another thing I do is build websites, but usually only for family/friends, so this doesn't bring in as much as it should be because I try to charge them as LITTLE as possible.

Does anyone have any luck buying/selling tack at local shows or on Ebay? Could I get some different wholesale dealers to order from that are good? I've wanted to get into this for a while, but I guess I just never got around to it. I am sure I could borrow the money from my parents to get myself started.

Any other ideas would be great, too. I just need enough money to support my habit (barrel racing at least 2 weekends a month).

Thanks guys!!!!

Random, I know but I am looking to meet people in Florida, preferably around the Lake Wales area currently that would be willing and able to haul me and my horse with them to barrel races/rodeos. I am a college student from Wyoming and currently have no means of transport for my horse and need to get him out and experienced. If you, or anyone you know would be albe to help me please contact me. I would be willing to chip in fuel money, help with your horses, clean stalls or do many other duties to pay for the help.
Thank you so much!
Jane
