I have a horse that I am starting on barrels. She is picking up her left shoulder great but has an issue with her right. What is a good bit to start a horse on that will also help with her picking up her shoulder?

It sounds like you need to go back to the schooling pen and work on her right shoulder rather than changing your bit. If she is picking up her left shoulder and moving it properly... then her right shoulder needs more practice. Couple other things to consider are saddle fit and other possible soreness issues - shoulder, carpals, foot or left hip. :)

hey, I had the EXACT same problem with my mare. She'll throw you off if you don't hold on she's so powerful. Anyway, it seemed like I tried every bit and combination bit imaginable. Finnaly, I broke down and bought a quickstop. I didn't want to, because I prefer a bit in my horse's mouth. I feel like it gives me more control. But with this mare, it was a miracle worker. With just a slight bump she'd sit down and turn the barrel. But that's just me and with my older mare, who had a stopping issue, I tried an L&W bit it did wonders for her too. Whatever you do, I hope you find the right one.
